I'm going back a couple of years now when cheap flights were cheap but armed with a camera, some sandwiches, a pocketful of euros and a £18 return ticket to Rome with Ryanair depart just gone 6am. 1) Arrive at Rome Ciampino airport apx 9;30am and then get a dedicated return bus into Rome city dropping of next to train sation. 2) Buy a bus ticket from paper stand and take a local bus thru busy streets to St Peters Basillica. 3) Sit and eat my sandwiches take pictures before walking around St Peters itself, don't try to visit the Vatican you need 4 days to see it all and dont try to walk up the dome if u are a bit overweight. 4) Leave St Peters and walk straight ahead to the River Tibre passing the numerous cheap street sellers, watch out all over Rome for many forms of beggers. 5) Walked passed the Pantheon and on up to the Trevie Fountain threw my coins into it to ensure i return again. The song "Three coins in the fountain" comes from this tradition incase u didn't know. 6) Stopped for a drink and souvenirs as I walked back down to the Plaza Venizia and the massive Monument Victor Emanuelle which overlooked the old roman Forum. 7) Walk beside the forum towards the Colloseum in front of me and then paid my €10 entry to look inside and walk around and marvel at what it would of been like. 8 ) Used the metro across the road and took two trains to the Spanish Steps and had an early evening mingle with the students whilst having a drink. 9 Make way back by metro to the main line station to catch the return bus at 19:30 to the airport.... boom boom back at Stansted 23:30 and tehn a 90 car ride home.
You cant see Rome in a day...... But i saw a good bit of it .. A bit hurried for some people |
