It maybe tempting  not to bother with a green card as  your normal insurance will give u basic European cover. I drove to italy  in May and had a lorry sway into me the first thing people were asking was have i  got  green card  cover. there was a noticable  difference in the attitude of their helpfulness. Mine cost me £36 to get fully comp upgrade for the whole year
