Sulayman Jungkung Hospital, Bwiam, Gambia June 2008
As my original lodging, booking, was not, available. (because of the international ROOTS Festival, was taking place, and to which I was attending). (HIGH authorities had overuled all accomodation in the area) Accommodation, was made available at the Sulayman Junkung General Hospital !!!!!. In the travel, information books, it relates the image that the property has had some form of investment. On first impression this seems to be incorrect, but as the property occupies a huge plot of land, I am assured that the main part of the Hospital is functioning to a good standard.
The accommodation was in a rear block, away from the main, hospital, entrance. Each “wing” is in a circular formation; the room was on the second floor (for reference, opposite, the only, large tree, on the property). Balcony, on corridors, has wonderful views, of the area (some hospital equipment, can be seen, in the odd corner), room was basic, NO water (water in buckets is supplied, bathroom floor is very slippery), NO electric (very intermittent supply, during the day) a pedestal fan is offered (but NO power, for it!!), Mosquito net, over the window, (very large hole, can be found in, bathroom ceiling, letting Lizards have access to cooler temperatures). Another single bed, was brought in, to make a “twin room”.
In all, not my favourite accommodation, but it was a room And my previous booking was re-located (in a Gambian way of thinking !!!).
