Kairaba Hotel, Senegambia, The Gambia.
A “large” top hotel, in The Gambia.
Very clean, areas, with a pool (and pool side restaurant) immaculate gardens with paths to the beach.
Our room (1611, near to reception) had twin beds, shower room (very small, far too small, to even think of taking a wheelchair, into plus a step in to the shower, with a very narrow door), TV, hair drier, towels, safe, phones (direct dial), air conditioning, welcome pack (with information about the hotel and the surroundings). No view (but who cares, in the darkness or when your asleep).
A very clean room, maid service supplies towels and linen (at daily intervals).
Hotel has its own restaurants, or venture out, to the “STRIP”, within a few yards. (BUMSTERS will “Hassle”, you, but a firm NO, will hold them off).
Breakfast is served at the hotel with a huge choice, Kingfisher restaurant, with excellent views, (as we found out, this is a set price (for a complete meal) and we only had coffee, but paid the full amount !!!!!!!).
As an, active, wheelchair user, there are ramps, in most places, only one step into the room (number 1611) (BEWARE-a large slope by reception to the gardens and beach, but PLENTY of help, is always at hand, sometimes TOO much help – once I was trying to get out my chair to push up the steep ramp, when hotel security, wanted to help, with a VERY FIRM hand on my shoulder, and stearn voice “SIT- SIT- SIT” ).
There are a lot of paths, within the gardens, to allow you to make “a route” without encountering obstacles.
A lot of trips/excursions, with a lot of guides, outside the hotel (the holiday company can supply these, but I think they are very expensive – very “touristy” based (only showing you WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO SEE).
When going out of the hotel, I only used my “wheely” on the “strip”, I “wobbly walked” every where, as the ground is rough, and sandy. If, like me, you CAN manage to walk a little, Have an adventure to Gambia.
This hotel is of high quality, very close to the main tourist area.
